Character Background

• History: This article is about the Jedi Kylo Ren. You may be looking for the pirate Kybo Ren.

• Core Relationships:

- Supreme Leader Snoke: Kylo's mentor and Master. When he was a child, he heard Snoke speaking to him in his mind. It became a regular occurance for Kylo, then known as Ben Solo to converse with him and for Snoke to plant seeds of dissent in the boy's mind, to earn his trust. After Luke tried to kill him, he was the person that Ben sought out, trained under as apprentice. Snoke stoked the anger in Kylo, pushing his limits, and his loyalty as he grew disgruntled under him. Kylo would later kill him, tricking him into believing that he was about to kill Rey. Disguising his murderous intent with more murderous intent.

- Luke Skywalker: His uncle. Once his beloved uncle, his relationship changed when Ben went to him to train in the Force. Though he'd often accompany him on Jedi business, his uncle was harder on him than other students because of his power and as not to see him getting any special treatment. Ben grew bitter, and angry over his teachings, his treatment and the Jedi way itself. When Luke attempted to kill him, he brought down the temple and fled to Snoke. When he learned that Luke was alive, he volunteered to find him, to not only snuff out the Jedi but to kill his traitorous uncle.

- Han Solo: Once upon a time Ben wanted to be a pilot like his father, the smuggler turned war hero, Han Solo. Like his mother, his father was too preoccupied with other things to always be there for Ben, nor did he entirely understand the Force stuff. He was sent off to his uncle's academy where he wouldn't see his parents ... not until Starkiller base when he, as Kylo Ren begged his father to help him. Kylo believed that killing him would end his conflict and pain, instead the act ravaged him with guilt and regret.

- Leia Organa: His mother, like his father was a busy woman through most of Ben's childhood. She was a senator in the new republic and it often meant that she wasn't around a lot, nor to be around to really understand what he was going through in regards to his growing ability. She made the decision for Luke to train him, and also to keep his true heritage -- his relationship to the Sith Lord and former scourge of the galaxy Darth Vader, a secret. Ben resents her for that, for her fear of him. He won't see her again, not until he's unable to kill her on a mission against the Resistance when he's unable to fire on her transport.

- General Hux: A right twat and power hungry weasel that Kylo has had the misfortune of working with in the Order. He has no respect for Hux nor he for Kylo.

- Rey: A nobody that Kylo captures to gain intel on Luke's whereabouts and find the map she carries to him. He would later realize that she is not the nobody he believed but a powerful individual in the force that he would become interested in. She pushes herself into his mind, much to his shock and manages to defeat him in combat on Starkiller base, but not before refusing his offer to train and teach her in the Force. Later, the two would find themselves bonded via the Force, much to both of their dismay, but it allows Rey to see a different side of Kylo, and he her. Despite what she may believe, he did not lie to her, nor only want her for her power but because he saw her as an equal in the light, and he believed that he found understanding - someone who would stand beside him for the first time. 

Character Personality Through Key Moments

(2+) Positive Experiences:

• Determination: Kylo Ren is an extremely determined and driven individual. While his determination often comes from a place of simply wanting to prove himself worthy of respect and the mantle of the heir to Darth Vader, it's notable. Leading to feats of strength and prowess, such as slaying an ancient beast that's worshipped as a God on a faraway planet, or pushing himself to fight through a severe blaster injury that would likely fell a lesser man by drawing strength from his pain through the dark side. When it comes to finding Luke Skywalker, he offers himself to lead the mission and even goes against his given orders, believing that he can find the information that the map contained in the mind of the scavenger. 

• Intuitive: More than just a force ability, Kylo is actually an intelligent and observant individual. As a student, he was extremely studious, pouring over Jedi texts and artifacts - his hobbies included calligraphy. But when the first force bond between Rey and him happens, instead of getting angry as she does, he's curious about how it's happening, and correctly guesses that she's not really there and that the effort of teleporting herself over to him would kill her. He's actually fascinated by the whole thing. And Kylo shows a rare side of vulnerability to Rey during these force bonds, that underneath all of his anger and insecurity, he is still very much a young boy, lonely, who doesn't want her to feel afraid or alone, either. He shows a rare side of understanding as she confides in her. And for all of his flaws, he is honest, never once does he lie to her. 

(2+) Negative Experiences:

• Emotional Immaturity: Kylo Ren has a distinct lack of control over his emotions, particularly his rage. In part because he was taught and told to embrace and use said anger, but it is responsible for his many emotional outbursts in which he can fly in a fit of destruction and violence, sometimes towards others. Sometimes towards a console or other machinery. Often he will react with said emotions instead of thinking things through causing him to on occasion make a rash or impulsive choice. One instance is in the throne room with Snoke, where after being belittled he lashes out to attack the man, and for his efforts is thrown across the room with a bolt of lightning. 

• Conflicted nature: Namely Kylo has a lot of conflicted feelings. About himself, in the force and the darkside. He struggles, is afraid that he will never be what he is meant to be, because he feels a call to the light that he believes is hindering himself from his true potential. As Vader's heir. It is this conflict and turmoil that sees the death of his father at his own hands as a release from his pain, a link to his past gone. But he finds that it winds up only causing him more strife. 

Deer Country Attributes

• Canon Powers: Kylo Ren is extremely strong in the Force. Extremely. The Force is the energy that binds all life in the universe, but some have the ability to harness it, and are sensitive to it. These individuals can perform great feats that the average living being in the galaxy cannot. Kylo is one of those individuals. His raw strength and power were a worry to those around him growing up, even his uncle feared it...

Telekensis: Being able to lift and pull objects towards using the Force, such as calling his lightsaber or another individual towards him. He also able to freeze an opponent's entire body or missile in mid-air.

Precognition: Visions, or having a sense of being able to sense other individuals or their force signatures. To sense danger before it happens (ie: Poe shooting at him and him turning around and freezing the laser in mid-air) and the like. 

Swoleness: Kylo Ren is shredded, I hear he has an eight pack. Kylo has been taught to not only use the force as a weapon, to not only rely on his lightsaber but his own skill as a talented fighter and combatant. He is able to perform great feats that push the normal body's limitations, from drawing on his pain to fuel his body to fight through being severely injured by a blaster bolt, to running and jumping and moving faster than one would typically expect from a man his size. 

Telepathy: Like other force users, Kylo is able to use telepathy. It's used in several ways, from being able to influence the minds of others to do his bidding and follow a direct order to the ability to search minds for information or memories. This can be as pleasant or unpleasant of an experience as he would like it to be.
