[The text is followed by an image of her left upper thigh that appears to have a rather fresh and only partially healed stab wound held together with stitches. None of the fancy healing tech he had for his saber injury. The hem of a t-shirt frames the bottom edge of the image, but it really doesn't cover much of anything. Though it is just her thigh in frame.]
[ Since waking up with the hangover from Hell -- quite literally, recovering from his brush with death, Kylo has not sought anyone out nor left his room. His chest hurts with phantom pain which he absently rubs at as he reads the text.
He thought it'd be Rey, come to yell at him more, but no. He frowns on at the image for a long moment. ]
I'd have it seen again, those stitches don't look like they're doing their job well. What happened?
[ Rey is nearly vibrating with nervous energy as she waits for Ben to arrive. She'd texted him earlier, all the while trying to conceal her own anxiety within their bond, and asked if he minded staying in with her tonight. Things were still chaotic, and given the happenings in hellburbia, Rey really couldn't bear to put this conversation off for another moment. Before something else happened to tear them apart.
She's still got a small horde of leftover cookies from Christmas lingering about the kitchen area, but she's also procured some hot chocolates for them both, which she's just finished reheating for the second time. She's just about to send a tiny insistent nudge through the Force when she hears the door click open. ]
I know you don't respect dessert emergencies the way I do, but if I had to wait one more minute I was going to drink your hot cocoa, too.
[ He wouldn't block out her nervous-anxious energy, even if he wanted to through the bond. Things were difficult here in the hotel, for the survivors. It was another day, a new struggle. But it was fine. Mostly. There was food to scavenge, and there weren't monsters or cultists attacking so that was always a plus.
Something was up. Kylo didn't need the Force or her calling him to tell him to hurry up to know she had something on her mind; though what that part was he didn't pry. Sneak for an answer. He opens the door, brushing the snow that had yet to melt out of his hair with gloved hands and tosses his coat on the bed. ]
You should've mentioned that there was cocoa involved.
[ He clambers into the kitchen, letting the warmth wash over him. Nuzzling his cold nose against her neck and taking her scent as he pulls her to him - of cocoa and something all too Rey. ]
[ A note, left on the bedside table. Rey's few belongings are gone from their shared room. ]
Ben,
I'm sorry for doing this in a letter, but I couldn't stand the thought of hurting you any more than I already have, and I didn't want this to become one last fight.
I know you've already forgiven me for what I did in Mercy, but I can't accept your forgiveness. I hurt you, and I couldn't stop myself from hurting you. I wasn't strong enough to resist harming even you, even with our bond. It means I'm not a safe person to be around, not for anyone, but especially not you.
I can't hurt you like that again. I won't.
I can't leave this place entirely, but I can't stay here.
I love you. That hasn't changed, and it won't. But I won't create more painful memories that will crowd out the good ones until we can no longer stand to look at one another.
[ when Kylo sees the note, he feels something in him sink. He reads it in silence, sitting on his bed in the empty room, the red dragon he'd taken in nudging at his feet.
With his head in his hands, he sits for what seems like an eternity.
And then without warning, he's up on his feet, slamming the bedside table into the wall with a CRASH. He's not sure how long he rages, only that the dragon has fled the room at this point. Figures. Everyone leaves. Nobody is ever happy, especially not them.
Ignoring the wetness on his face, he sends her a message. ]
And what about what I want?
Fine. Fine. Have your pity time and run away. Don't know what I was expecting.
But we're not finished, you and I. I refuse to let you spend the rest of your days here guilty over an act you weren't even in your right mind when you committed, as I know you'd not allow me to do the same were our positions switched.
When the time comes, and it will, I'll find you.
I love you.
[ if she tries to call him back, he won't answer. he leaves the bond untouched. ]
"Another one? You haven't even named the one you've got."
Rey had come out of the cottage to some commotion from the two smaller dragons only to see Kylo returning with another winged companion that she didn't recognize, and this one looked like it might be the biggest of the three, though not fully grown. She'd been told to watch out for larger ones here, but she hadn't expected Kylo to make a pet of one this quickly. She knew she oughtn't have left him back in Mammon's kingdom to look around.
"Well, bring it inside, before something else out here makes a snack of all of them."
Kylo bows his head briefly, the lightest smile on his face as he reaches for the dragon's head. It leans up into the touch, arching slightly as he gives it a scratch. He hadn't meant to acquire the dragon, but something in it's golden gaze had called out to him. They were marvelous creatures, dragons.
Whistling, he calls out to the others as they sniff and study the new creature.
"He has a name." Kylo replies finally as he steps inside the house to greet Rey proper. "They both do."
It has been years now since Hell has been redone and made even greater than ever before. And you, my prized guest, have made it twenty-four months in your journey towards redemption. I know that there have been bumps along the way and we haven't always seen eye to eye, but I do wish to show my gratitude. Together, we will all leave Hell one day.
I have handpicked gifts specifically for you to commemorate this anniversary. I do hope you enjoy them.
A gift basket that includes an assortment of teas, chocolates, candies, etc. There will also be a photo of Han and Ben from when he was a child.
A functional vibro scythe. Whenever he handles it, memories of his life replay, sometimes good, sometimes bad. It’s a gamble which it will be.
A night in a honeymoon suite at Casino Styx. No disturbances and the succubi will supply whatever he wants. He may bring one partner.

A friend stabbed me. They gave him a special knife.
